Why call for Squirrel Removal?

Squirrels, although they are common in our parks and forests, do not belong in our homes or workplaces. Squirrels living on your property can cause damage by clawing and biting through parts of the building as well as your belongings. Calling a professional squirrel removal service like SOS Wildlife Control Incorporated will ensure that the squirrel removal process is done humanely, efficiently and effectively. ‘Do-it-yourself’ methods can be difficult and dangerous if you are not an experienced wildlife removal technician.

“In the snow storm on Dec. 28 (yes – during Christmas holidays), we got squirrels in our roof. We called a few different providers, but all were slow to respond and suggested up to a week for a site visit. Sherwin from S.O.S. was responsive and came to our house SAME DAY! He did a thorough inspection and installed one-way traps to remove the squirrels. Hopefully we’re not in this situation again, but we’d call Sherwin again without thinking twice. Best service – without question!” -Homestar Review

Squirrel Removal

Adult Squirrel Removal/Baby Squirrel Removal

After an inspection is conducted, SOS Wildlife Control Incorporated technicians will be able to provide you with a thorough description of what the problem is. Based on the inspection, our technicians will explain to you what the main entry points are, other entry points and potential entry points. Multiple options will be given to you tailor-made to your specific situation and structure of the property. The main method for squirrel removal is a one-way door. Once a one-way door is installed, when a squirrel leaves as part of their regular routine, they will not be able to re-enter. If babies are involved, a one-way door is not used and the technician will physically remove them from the property and place them in an insulated box. They will remain here until their mother picks them and relocates one-by-one. If a situation requires trapping the squirrel, they must then be relocated a maximum of 1 kilometer away in accordance with Ontario Law.

To ensure that squirrels will not enter through any other weak-points or potential entry-points, a prevention method can be conducted. This ensures that the weak-points, entry-points, potential entry-points and main entry-points are protected by galvanized steel mesh, a material strong enough to prevent squirrels from chewing through. About Squirrels

Squirrels front teeth constantly grow causing the squirrel to chew, in order to keep their teeth sharp. This is why most of the wreckage caused by squirrels includes chewed and gnawed damage. When in nature, squirrels tend to chew on tree barks, twigs and other natural hard items, but if you have a confined squirrel in the attic, they chew on electric wiring, roof braces, wood and electrical fixtures. In Ontario the most common squirrel species to cause damage in the home are the grey squirrel and the red squirrel. They are highly adaptive animals. Squirrels, like raccoons enter through holes in the roof, rip soffits, go through an open vent, chimney or through a hole in the wall. Squirrels are usually more frightened of you than you are of it, so try making loud noises or play ongoing music to frighten them away. Covering entry holes with metal mesh, capping chimneys and trimming trees back from your home will keep them out. These are wildlife proofing measures. Suburban areas such as North York, Mississauga, Richmond Hill and Markham are very prone to squirrel problems even though squirrels are found all over the densely populated areas of Toronto. You may hear them running quickly across the ceiling during the early hours of the morning. If you hear chewing or scratching from a squirrel in the attic don’t hesitate to call SOS Wildlife Control Incorporated for humane squirrel removal.

Squirrel Damage

  • Entry Holes

Squirrels are part of the rodent family, the same family as rats. Just like rats they are excellent chewers, so they often chew through wooden fascia boards or other areas to gain access. But one of the easiest ways for a squirrel in the attic to enter is through the attic vents. Most of the time they don’t even need to chew their way in as sometimes where the soffit meets the roof there are construction imperfections that allow squirrels to squeeze through the crack and get in. To avoid this, it is recommended to wildlife proof your home. This is done by capping chimneys and putting a metal mesh over the weak areas of your homes like soffits and vents. Wildlife proofing your home in advance can save you damage repair costs in the future.

  • Squirrel In the attic

Squirrels in the attic make themselves comfortable and cause damage to insulation and cables. The squirrel often finds bedding material by shredding roof or wall paper and vent ducts and insulation around pipes. Because they love to chew they can cause a lot of damage. They chew on electrical wires, pipes, wood, vents, siding and just about everything. Squirrels can cause a lot of damage and in extreme cases, can cause an electrical fire or flooding. If you have squirrels in your house, call SOS Wildlife Control Incorporated to have them humanely removed immediately.
